Hello Everyone,

I have this bonsai for almost 3~4 years (10~11 years old).
I am not too sure if I should do anything about the soil or wait till spring and repot?
The soil seems too damp and it's been raining and snowing forever and ever here in Vancouver.
I am not sure if the soil I have is breaking down and now it doesn't drain too well...
Should I just swap out the old soil and replace new soil for better drainage without touching the roots? or wait till spring?
I have the bonsai under cover but the wind/rain still gets in....

Please see attached picture and let me know your comment.

Thanks you,
Best Regards,
Alex

The plant is dormant so it is fine the way it is, repot if it needs it in spring. Rain will not cause any harm.

Keeping the tree in the rain is OK, but not stay wet all the time, that can cause root rotting.

it is repotted in the spring, it is not in a draining substrate, the roots abruptly to rot says if there, it has all wrongly taken to shelter it with a cold greenhouse or greenhouse

That's my main concern.
I guess I might see if I can DIY a cover just to block the rain.

Thanks you!

Here's an update for my temporary cover from the rain.
5 gallons bucket, a wooden board, 2 cartons of cigarettes and 1 piece of rock.

Best Regards,
Alex

looks good for the purpose. Make sure the wooden board don't drop on your tree. And make sure the tree receive as much light as possible.

it's not a big deal for the light, since it is dormant, you have to be careful when the people are going to wake up

Sleeping people will not steal bonsai's. People that are awake are possible suspects!
