About 20 years ago we planted some azaleas in the flower bed in front of the house. They were labeled fall blooming but went 12 years or so with almost no flowers, probably because they were in almost total shade. 

About 7-8 years ago we decided to do something else in the front so I dug them all up. Not wanting to waste some perfectly good material I put them in some big clay pots on the south side of the house then after a couple of years put them in bonsai pots. Four of them have survived. I have usually reported them in early spring since they don't flower then but missed this year on three of them.

About two weeks ago these fall bloomers burst out in flowers, with temperatures of highs 98F/37C and night lows of 85F/30C or so. August will be just as hot, September will be almost as hot, October will seem cool by comparison, but it won't be what any sane person would call Fall until mid November. Most years they bloom September and October but this year they have surprised me.

When do I repot them? November? March, with the other trees? Certainly not September if that is when they stop flowering.

You should repot them in early spring (late February–March), just as buds swell and before new growth starts. Do not repot during flowering or in fall.
