I think it is Norway maple. It is the common street tree in New York City. I had a few volunteer trees in my yard. I wonder if they can be used as bonsai. Someone (in LI Bonsai society so I guess he knew) told me that the species is no good because the leaves are big. Sounds reasonable but just double checking. Wadddaya say? Thanks

Acer platanoides is not so good for bonsai because the leaves are big.

I have seen leaves that have been reduced allot on those tree's but the petoiles are staying kinda longish
So if you are going to do it aim for a large size bonsai
