I'm a little confused, are you implying that putting some rocks in water below the tree doesn't raise the humidity at all? Or it's just too little that won't help. Since it costs almost zero and is harmless.why not do so even if it helps a little?
It's just some water that evaporates around the tree.

The humidity just spreads/ disperses into the air, it doesn't stay around the tree. See it as dropping a drop of paint into a pool, it just vanishes into the vast amount of water.
