What is the next step for this Tallow? Should it be cut lower? I am pretty sure that at this point I should just let it grow before doing anything else, but basically I'm asking if I've done a good job at this point.

I am wondering why you have collected this. You see a future for this as a bonsai?

In any case. let it get healthy first, yes.

Well, Tallow is an invasive species that comes up like weeds where i live (North Florida), and i had read online that it could be used for bonsai (to some degree). seeing as how it grows very fast and is almost impossible to kill, it seemed like a good species to practice on. i recently pulled up a lot of tallow in my yard, and this was the biggest one. i am still starting out obviously, so i will take whatever i can get. I dont really have much of a vision for this plant, it just seemed like a good project to learn from and get some amount of experience from. I think the only plant i have that comes near being considered a legitimate bonsai (at least, that i have made entirely on my own) is a small Yaupon Holly i bought as a bush a few years ago. I made a separate topic on that project

So, I went ahead and cut it back a good bit further. I didn't like how straight that length of trunk was, and I think this will give me more options with the future plant. Already it has produced new growth at the cutting point, and is doing great from what I can tell.
Any suggestions at all for the future look of the plant? I realize it might not be great bonsai material, but any ideas are much appreciated :).

Asking for plans for this plant is as relevant as showing us an empty canvas and asking us what to paint.
You have nothing. The plant has absolutely no characteristics yet that make it interesting for bonsai.

Just let it grow.

Ok. I guess in my mind I was asking for any comments in general, not what just people would do with the plant, because obviously as you put it, I have an empty canvas, not a bonsai or pre-bonsai. I understand that it has a really long way to go before it can be considered close to a bonsai, and am not expecting a finished product any time soon.
I see your point, however, and my only real reason for posting that was just as a follow up to the first post wondering if it should be cut lower or not. Sorry, and thanks I guess. Letting it grow is all I plan on doing at this point.
