Mold?

I got this little bonsai this last summer, and have been fighting with mold? On the soil and on the base of the tree. Why is this happening?

watering with hard water causing scale buildup, most likely.

Usually mould appears in organic wet soils, or around organic slow release fertiliser.
Maybe overwatering it? Is the place around your bonsai too humid?

Once again, if you show a clear picture of the soil, we can see what is going in. So far I am not convinced it is mold

It’s been sitting in the sun room and it’s watering itself, I put water in the pan below and it sucks it up. It’s winter out so there’s not a lot of humidity. I hope this pic is better.

You have got mold because you put it in a pan with water which it sucks up.
Also, Junipers belong outdoors.
