Looks amazing, progress since collection is staggering!

I only have about 12-15 trees in my collection, but yet to get a hornbeam. Does it respond to defoliation by having smaller leaves? That has been the only thing that slightly puts me off hornbeams (their large leaves).

Thanx.
No, it won´t get much smaller leaves, actually it seems to me that thay are always the same large size even when partially defoliated 3 times a season.

The trick seems to be to pinch new growth constantly.

Could you elaborate on this one LB please?
All new growth? I assume this would be possible only on a "finished" bonsai.

i was getting some advice on the tree I am showing next month on a show. And we looked at one of the carpinussen my friend has. He explained that he pinches all your sprouts as soon as he can see the second leaf. THat we, he keeps the leaves extremely small (2cm foliage on c. betulus)

This one is progressing rather fast :) Second partial defoliation this year was done today. Lots of new shoots appeared after first one :)
