As to the use of plastic bag - you just put it in thé black plastic bag.
Keep it wet inside - mist the tree daily.

Around here (in Spain), when collecting trees that have almost no feeding roots (those white thin roots) and instead have a long and pivoting root which main purpose is mostly fixing the tree to ground, I´ve seen putting those trees in pots and immediately have them covered with a black plastic bag for almost a month or at least until the tree begins sprouting all over again, while keeping its interior wet or moist.

Now, I must confess that I´m not sure of the validity of this technique from the physiology point of view, after all trees do need the sun and to perform the photosynthesis process, however experimentally talking I must confirm that it seems to work rather well and that increases the success of such trees collection process...

Maybe some other member here (LB, this one is for you :whistle: ) can or would explain why this technique seems to work rather well... Even if the physiology of the tree seems to be broken by this process...

Why would it be? You put a trunk without the leaves in warm and humid environment that stimulates budding and root grow. Once the ĺeaves emerge, you take it out of bag and put it in a shade for a month or so...

Exactly. It does not need sun until it does not have leaves.

First 2 flowers since collection appeared on this yamadori blackthorn.
A bit weird that in autumn though.
Might be because of recent pruning and very warm weather these days I guess (28°C).
Or maybe there is some other reason.
Anyways, looking forward to spring as now I expect it to be full of flowers

After covering the tree with black plastic, how hot does it get where the tree is?

Day before yesterday I dug up a crepe myrtle that has sprouted from a long root coming from a mother tree. I stuck it in a pot just hoping, but I can put the plastic over it tonight easily. The tree now is covered with leaves. Temperature now varies up to 95F/35F and will be there for several weeks, but nights are much cooler. It is sitting where it gets very little sun but there is some that hits it mid day. I can move it.

I wouldn´t put it in a bag with leaves on. This is a technique for collected trees without leaves in spring.
