Seems to be a European/Japanese Yew: the trunk grows straight for four inches, then veers left for two inches and THEN, grows right for a main branch of (counting from the curve), downward for almost twelve inches. Undesirable. (?) I wish to trim the rapidly growing main branch. (Perhaps to use as a new planting.) However, the extreme bend (6-7 inches) seems to be the more desirable cutting point. Please advise.

Ermm... well, as you don't have a photo, you could make a drawing and post it?

Just treat like you would any plant, just don't over prune it
