You are more than welcome, LB. Just throw a message when you decide to come to Sofia we will take a tour in the near mountains and forests. Would love to meet you and talk on all-things-Bonsai, with glass of beer in hand, I guess : )

Understanding soil principles is a must when dealing with our trees... Hope these links might help you out on that task:

Leatherback, thank you so much for your message, I really didn't think at all about procuring my own soil from nature! I mainly thought that the tree is coming from Japan or China and the soils must be different from what I have in Romania. On the other hand, someone has told me my bonsai is a Siberian Buddhist Pine but I am not exactly sure what he meant, my bonsai skills haven't yet reached that level.

Alain Leon, thank you a lot for the useful links you provided me with, they were really eye opening.

In the end I think I have found the recipe for my Buddhist Pine's soil:

60% Akadama
10% Organic compost
30% Grit
Please let me know your opinion about this mix.

I have also found the products in the Netherlands:
www.bonsaishop.nl/grond/grondsoorten/voo...potgrond-mix-4-liter
www.bonsaishop.nl/grond/grondsoorten/aka...bonsai-aarde-2-liter

Thank you in advance!

Ha, glad you found it useful Røng, however the hey takeaway was that there is no such thing as the ideal Bonsai soil for each and every tree and for each and every circumstance

That said, it would be interesting knowing where you are located... Now, whether that soil mix would work or not it would firstly and highly depend on what care you´d be able to provide to your trees...

Hi.....not sure when this was posted....I use 100% Seramis with all our trees...Podocarpus is a favourite of mine...it is suitable for indoors depending on your country and for outdoors. I have hopefully attachedvan image of Podocarpus in a room with no natural light....high-output LED only for 16 hours per day......
