What do you think? The roots need some training. Potted up the tree, but not sure about making any significant cuts right now. Any advice? Early spring 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit.

Has this just been potted? Then I would first let it settle in the pot. If you get good growth in summer, probably reduce to one trunk, considering tridents close cuts very wel.

Yes - it was just repotted, partially defoliated, and removed some junk branches to reduce stress on roots. I have been told these are hardy trees at this age. This tree is old and has a massive trunk with nice root spread. I just want to see what others think about cutting aggressively at this point? I expect to wait until I notice the tree settle into its new pot.

You should not have taken any leaves off. It needs the leaves to gain strength before any leaves are removed. There are few beanches so it needs to grow.
