Hello everyone,

I don't like the look of the two branches that are growing together.

This tree was bought as a gift and so I didn't leave the branches to grow like this, but now I want to rectify it as its ugly to the eye.

Is it best to cut the tree where I've marked and when should I do this?
Any tips on anything I need to either do before or after the cut?


I've attached photos and if anyone can help, it'll be greatly appreciated.

I would cut it. It's a big cut, so apply some cut paste. If you are in the northern hemisphere, now could be a good time to cut it.

I cannot see any mark in your pictures.

But anyway. This is a very weak tree. Newer prune a weak tree. Spend a year or two getting it back to vigour. Place it so the bare side gets the most sun. You might get new growth that helps balancing the tree. Once the tree is back to full health it will be so much easier to decide a future for the tree.

... and you achieve that by placing it outside, inside it will only become weaker
