Thought I would start a progression of this mid-size Kishu to keep track of the work done and the response from the tree.

As received from the previous owner.

NOW we wait for the tree to recover, and in mid-summer I´ll work on the details and properly wire the tree.
Next year, if all goes according to plan, it will be repotted into a proper bonsai pot.
I will show the progression here.

Where did you get it?

Thank you, @Albas !
Got it at Kojima's nursery, in Mogi das Cruzes, near São Paulo.
Kojima has the most incredible junipers in Brazil I guess. Most of them grown in the ground for at least 10 years.
Prices are fair and the trees wonderful.

That is a handsome tree Clicio - I look forward to seeing what you do with it.
Love how happy you look with it in the first picture - above all else Bonsai should bring joy.

Very nice tree, very nice work already done, looking forward to see the progression.
Any plans to handle the 4 "legs" on the base of the trunk?

Any plans to handle the 4 "legs" on the base of the trunk?

Yes.
As it was taken off the ground less than two years ago, it is still getting used to the restrictions of the pot.
Japanese bonsai guys say about shimpakus: "one year aerial work, next year roots work".
So I will be patient and when the time comes I will take it out of the pot and sort the roots out. Maybe do some hard cutting on them. Time will tell! Lol

Nice Tree!

So sad my work does not get me into Brazil regularly anymore, or I would have asked to join you for a weekend of wiring!
