I have a fairly old overgrown lemon tree in my backyard planted in the ground. There is a new branch starting to form off the main branch which could be used as an anchor when wiring the new branch. Would it be possible to wire the new small branch anchored to the bigger branch while it is still planted in the ground? At some point I would air layer and graft it then put it in a bonsai training pot already with movement and secondary branches. Is this even possible?? What steps would I need to take? Once again, thank you Bonsai enthusiast!

Of course, that is a fairly quick way to develop a trunk.
