Hi guys,

I bought a number of japanese maple varieties a few years ago that have been growing well.
None of them were bought or cared for with the intention of ever turning them into something nice, but I see potential in the nebari of 1.
Since I don't really like the foliage of it, I am considering taking it of completely and making something with the straight acer palmatum root stock.

With the sap rising, right now wouldn't be the right time, but does any of you have experience with a similar project?

Kind regards.

So you’ll just trunk chop it really low and hope it buds? At the right time of year, sure, why not? You could save the top tree by air layering first. Kinda depends where the graft is.

Edit: oh this was 17 months ago. What happened?
