Hey everyone, I recently aquired on of those mallsai's ...ficus ginseng with microcarpa branches grafted on the graft died back and its teally ugly, npt to mdntion the crazy roots. I wanted to grow a a tree from the branches. Do you know if ficus branches can just be rooted fairly easy without air layering of do you need a small cutting? The diameter of the branch is barely 1 cm. Any advice would be appreciated! Have a great day.

Ficus is one of the easiest trees to grow from cuttings

Hey thanks for your reply. I just wanted to be sure it'd take so I ended up cutting the branch off and grafting some arial roots on each side of the cut before potting it up. I took some small cuttings and defoliated them and put them in water with a bag over. I'm wondering if I can just cut the other branch and just stick it in bonsai soil to root it?

Hm.. I think I misunderstood. You cut a branch and then grafted roots? How long did you leave the roots to merge with the branch? This does not make sense to me.

I cut the branch off, defoliated it, then made a slit on each side of the bottom of the branch to insert two 1mm aireal roots on each side. Tied it up tight with twine and planted the branch in bonsai soil. Will this not work?

I would be very surprised it that works. But maybe this works in a tropical climate. Here it is a little harder to get rootgrafts ona trunk, which is why it is virtually never done.
