Hi 1st post and I'm completely new to bonsai from Dublin Ireland. I went to my local gardening centre to buy a juniper, they had none so I bought what I thought looked like a nice plant a corokia Contoneaster. I have removed some off shoots from the trunk and nothing else. Any guidance would be most welcome thanks P

I like the ramifications.
I know nothing about the weather in Dublin, but early fall at my place trees still have leaves on.
Was it intentionally defoliated?

Thanks for the replies. There are some small leaves on it but it's beginning to shed. It wasn't in a sunny area in the garden centre. I'll put it down the back of my garden where there's Sun B)

I can understand why you thought this was a good specimen. The ramification is nice - but actually not that relevant at this moment. You are going to need to grow a decent trunk first but this is a slow growing shrub and that is going to take very long. You may want to try a vey much smaller bonsai so things are in proportion quicker.

For now there is not much you shoul do but wait till next year. Make it grow first, learn to care for it. And study the subject.

There is not picture. If it is Cotoneaster it should not be dropping any leaves. I hope you did not pay much for it, Are you sure it is Cotoneaster? It is does not look like it from the first picture.

It is a variety (corokia), not as common as the horizontalis that is often used for bonsai.
It is noormally an evergreen but they do drop leaves in colder climates (agreed t seems too soon though. My horixontalis is dropping a few older leaves only)
