I love crab apples.
But they are hard to find as seedlings throughout Australia and even harder to find in qld.

So I bought lots of seeds of many varieties and some maples etc.

Only 1 problem. We don't get frost.

No problem for the tree to grow but less flowers I imagine.

Not a problem for seedling.

I like the trunks etc and I can emulate winter a little if needed. .

My issue is I planted 8 of each type.

I did the 90 days in the fidge and planted mid spring in little greenhouses using jiffy and vermiculite

I planted some purple maple and Listeria seeds too

About 60 seeds.

None grew I did my best to make sure they were damp but not drowned.

Did I plant too late?

Temps were about 27 degrees to 31 degrees Celsius during the day in a shaded area.

My regular apple seeds from an apple grew no fridge

Might be lack of dormancy. Could be bad seeds. Could be a fungus infection or insects eating the inside of the seeds. I every once in a while get seeds that do not germinate. I swallow. Empty the pot and have a do-over the next year.

Where do you get the seeds? Reputable seed seller?

I got the seeds from multiple places.
mostly reputable
The maples were an ebay store they had ok reviews though
I have another lot 30 days in fridge they will be ready July which is in winter.

At that time it's about 10 - 12 degrees Celsius at lowest since we do not have a proper winter here.
Evenings about 18 - 20 degrees.
Would it be a bad time to plant these ? then.

I still have about 10 or so left i was going to fridge them for Late September plant.

I am new to growing seeds but i have done pines successfully before few years back.

anyone know a video on stratification techniques that a really good and informative that they use and know works well on youtube?

Instead of trying to grow from seed would it not be easier to find plants to grow on?Saves years too. There are nurseries in Australia where you could get material. Much quicker and easier than from seed it is something I never even thought about doing when I started. I have tried seed but we don't always get enough frost to be effective,
