Hello! I have a project i want to try out, say i take a normal sized room, with some benches. Say 5-10 chinese elms, with 2-3 heavy mistmaker to increase humidity, and some powerfull grow lights, and good air circulation. Would it be possible to grow them indoors with light, air, and humidify like outside?

Don't forget temperature control. The trees will want cold in winter and hot in summer.

Add temperature to humidity, etc., and you are creating an environment not real good for the indoors part of the house. You will get damage to walls and the ceiling, and probably lots of bugs.

It would be easier to move the trees outside.

Hi, newbie here, just getting started with small bought bonsai and some evergreens (arborvitae, juniper, pine ) and azalea and boxwood from the garden store. I have a sunroom which is pretty cold in winter but doesn’t freeze, wondering if my pre bonsai and/or bonsai can winter there or if they need real outdoors (update NY). Alternatively there’s a completely unheated but enclosed front porch, cold and gets less light. I can set them outdoors snuggled up to the house too...

Best advice is to get with William Valvanis, International Bonsai Arboretum, in Rochester, also upstate NY. The climate there would be pretty much exactly what you get, and he can give you lots of good advice, too.

He puts all of his trees in an unattached garage with a space heater which keeps it above 27F, or at least tries to. He also has several quonset hut style greenhouses. I don't know if he heats them, but I am sure he does.

Actually Henrietta, NY.
