Hey!! I'm wondering about collecting new trees in autumn, normally I collect in spring and summer. Anything I should do different when collecting in autumn?

Looks like we have a comedian here. Atleast he thinks that. Not very helpful to a new user of BE, again...

You should protect your trees against freezing weather, in the winter. That's the most important. I have myself collected some field elms, field maples, pinus mugo and japanese cherrys the last weeks.

I find it strange that you collect in spring and summer, most people do so in autumn/winter: trees are dormant so less aftercare.

For autum collection it is important ro get the roots not too wet. And as root recovery might not happen till spring, be carefull with drying winds. It can be usefull putting the pots on a heating mat, depending on how cold your winters get.

In fall if you collect a deciduous tree there is a chance it won't make it through the winter. If you wait until leaves are coming out you know that it will, and you know which branches didn't make it.
Also, in fall you need to have a place to put it all winter, which may matter. Mostly, we think that root work should be done at the end of dormancy and not the beginning. I think that is more guideline than rule.
