i have a yong sycamore tree (approx 2 yrs )the bottom half looks ok but the top looks a bit out of propotion and cannot find any info about sycamore trees any advice would be most welcome as i am quite new to this hobby

What country are you in and where? Sycamore is probably one of the most difficult species to try to create bonsai from. The leaves are huge in comparison the the size the tree willl be. So by all means grow it but don't expect to get a reasonable bonsai in less than 20 years.
Instead go to your local nursey and look for something that has small leaves. Cotoneaster, Pyracantha, Hawthorn etc. Take a look at bonsai4me.com where you will find species guides and other information that you will find useful,

Ok, you will find it also is quite a slow grower. You must be not too far from Willowbog Bonsai, they do have supplies as well as trees. If you can well worth a visit.
