Buying a tree was created by JoshSiegel

I'm starting out in bonsai and am now buying a tree. Since I live in southern Texas(USA), it will be hard to keep a tree outside and maybe inside for that matter. That being said, it is usually 70˚ F in my house and that should be a good teller for which type of tree I should get. I was considering getting a mesquite which can grow in the heat, but does anyone have suggestions about which plant species I should get?
Thanks for the help in advance

Look at trees outside and then search on the internet to see if they can be trained as bonsai.
If they can, buy one. If not, keep trying.

Josh,
I'm sure you've already done a search for tropical Bonsai trees and seen some amazing Bonsai. My advice, purchase a quick reference book (I'm partial to Bonsai survival manual).
www.bonsaiempire.com/basics/general/books
Then pick a species that you think would have all the basics for you to start the process. Like... what type of tree would have the best chance to survive you and your environment, What type of tree do you visual find appealing, and what are your long term goals for you and this hobby/art?
Hope this helps. This is only my opinion.
