I just brought the larch home today, so I'll have to take a more serious look for bigger rimming. I will thin out some of the smaller branches, as there is a good deal of intertwining of the finer branches. The one side trunk is significantly larger than the other. That will need some work sooner or later. The main plan, as with all trees, is keep it thriving!

I might wait another year before I get any more trees.. have to see how the new space works with what I have. I will keep your pine in mind, if I change my mind.

The more I look at the larch, the more I think I'm going to have think about which side is the front.

Moeder-dochter van de andere twee bomen maken. Hierbij moet de kant waar nu de dunste boom staat nog wel een jaar of 2 vrijuit groeien om voldoende massa te hebben.

I would consider layering off the thinnest trunk. That does not fit with the rest of the tree.
Then you can style the other two trunks in mother-child style. You will need to let the side where the thinnest trunk is now, grow out. THe branches need to bulk up first.

Auch wenn ich nur Englisch, deutsch, und sehr wenig Polnisch und noch weniger Russischen spreche.. habe ich das auch irgendwie verstanden...

I think my German and English skills were enough to kind of figure out what you meant. The very small bit of Polish and Russian that I speak didn't help.

I see what you're saying about the small trunk.. I need to decide where the front is, which, I think might be easier when it has leaves. I'm wary to do anything major this year, but I'm going to work on the whirl of small branches in another month or so.

So I potted the birch today. i had originally thought about putting it in a glazed pot, but the glazed pot I had was too small, and I think better fitting for the tree that I was planning on putting in this pot.. I'm not sure , but I'm happy with this so far. I will say this: working in the soil on a tree this big takes time!

I thought I would post a couple pictures of the larch, now that it has started growing. I must say, I have seldom gotten such healthy material. not a single branch without new growth. I did protect it from wind in the winter but not much more.

So you did not thin the tree, nor wire it?
Then make sure you keep it light and airy inside. Branchlets that do not get light die, and you might end up with lots of dead buds on the inside if the outside gets too dense.
