This I have shot in Natal, also Brazilian Northeast.
It's a cashew tree, windblown. I love the roots.

Let's talk about nebari...
Ficus roots, Japanese Pavilion, Ibirapuera Park, on a bonsai show yesterday.
The tree is on the ground, obviously.

Ou! Now that I know this is here I will be sure to take some photos of the trees on the barrier island of North Carolina (mid-Atlantic region of Eastern US) we take holiday at every May. The area we stay is only 3-5 "city blocks" across so there is a very consistent wind. Hurricanes greatly effect the area too (even when they make landfall in the Caribbean). Some of the evergreens there are so weather beaten.

The dunes build up, the trees grow behind them, then the wind blows the sand over the trees and sands off the tops. I love the Outer Banks for a lot of reasons.
