I thought I will join this one too, but with my current situation I will rather spend those 18 euros on tiles or other material so I can finish the things I started :)

I was at a gardening center this weekend, for another reason. However, I noticed that others got better material than the elm I got for free - so I wondered if I should get something better too.

Having a look at the S-shaped, rust stained plants, I found the price was almost EUR 40,00

Sorry... but no, not going to do that (one of 'm was 20,00. It had hardly any leaves left and the pot was broken. I wouldn't have purchased it if it was 2,50).

The size limit should apply here I think. With a bigger tree you can afford to airlayer more interesting part and in another 2 years you got an interesting shohin.
Not that many possibilities with a tiny and thin mallsai.
Maybe if you added 2 more years :)

Hi all, I am also in! I like that!
Here are my two "perfect" Ulmus mallsais ;) :P .... got them for about 10-15 euros each a couple of years ago... I'm just letting them grow now... and have removed that ugly and useless wire from the S-shaped one...

I’m happy to see more and more participants :) That challenge was a good idea. However, why just LB and me opened the progression topics for the trees?

Well, is it necessary to open a new thread for the progressions?
Maybe I misunderstood LB original post, see below:

At the end of summer we do an update sharing the first steps taken & results

I am in, definitely, IF the S shape on the Elm is not mandatory. Mine is an ugly grafted little monster with no S curve (that will change so much in the near future, it will win the challenge!)

I propose that we start this now, and take 3 months for people to start a thread.

I am in!

I get this as :
You have 3 months to announce participation, open a thread for your tree, and you share here the link.
I could be mistaken, tho :)

I don’t think the S shape is necessary, but anywayz... Cheater! ;)

Felidae, as I have posted in another thread, I can't find an S shaped Elm here for less than 100 Euros.
As importing trees to Brazil is forbidden, these mallsai from nurseries in China are not so common here. Plenty of S shaped Ficus and tropicals, but elms...
Difficult.

I already opened that topic before the challenge.

I know Clicio, it was in my elm’s thread where we spoke about that. What’s the problem if it’s not S? If it’s an elm mallsai, it must be qualifies according the challenge title.

I already opened that topic before the challenge.

Ah... One thing is I still need some astatine for my time machine, but congrats for yours.
The other is that I didn’t think through that you already had the tree. ;)

Ah well.. I think it does not really matter what the details are. more the general thought that with a bunch oof people we try to see where we can take this type of material. We can of course decide we all have a topic names Ulmus challenge - {name}?
