Is this tree too small to start in a bonsai pot? It is in the flower garden and my husband wants to pull and throw it away.

Yes, it is too small, let it grow before starting the process of training it.

Lynda, first decide which height you want your bonsai to be. Then wait the trunk of the tree get the girth to be proportional. Then chop it down and pot it up.
