Hi Bonsai friends,
Would someone mind identifying this bonsai tree for me? I haven't had much luck online.
Also, if you have any special tips on how best to care for this type of tree and whether or not it is in good shape that would also be really helpful.
Thanks everyone.

Hard to tell from your picture. It could be a ficus. But now knowing where you are, where you got it and without seeing buds/flowers.. anybodies guess.

What did the previous owner say it is, and how did they tell you to take care of it?

Thanks for your reply leatherback!

I live in Adelaide, South Australia and bought this tree from an outlet in Adelaide. I haven't seen any buds/flowers as of yet.
Unfortunately the tree was not labelled when I purchased it. The owner mentioned it was possibly a variety of ficus but wasn't sure. He said I should give it morning sunlight and water when the soil is a light brown colour.

Hopefully that helps! If not, do you have any other suggestions as to how I can id this tree? Thanks very much.

Ficus normally creates new leaves that are covered in a sheet. The sheet grows with the bud for a while, then peels away and the leave unfolds and stretches. I find the way leaves come out of a bud to be very typical in allmost all tropical figs. So a picture there might help. After that you only have a few hundred (thousand ?) figs to choose from. Breeze in the park :)

I would say, then g by leaf size and look for commonly traded figs. That would be a dozen or so I would guess.

Ok great thanks for your help leatherback. I'll see if I can take a close up photo of the leaves to make it a bit more easier to identify.

I'll do a bit more research on commonly traded ficus also! Thanks again :)
