I recently ordered some moss to accent my trees. After rehydrating the moss, I started to wonder if placing it in my pots would create issues. For example, should I worry about transferring disease? Also, the structure of the moss is a little larger than I had expected. Might not be the best fit for smaller trees. Any suggestions on where one might find moss with a more suitable structure for bonsai?

I find suitable moss for bonsai on my paved patio.

I dont spend money on things that grow wild around me. If I would move to a place were moss dont grow I wouldnt consider growing moss.

One thing to do is keep the moss from growing on the tree. It can ruin the bark. A little looks neat, until you turn your back and it devours half the tree.

There is a kind of moss that grows in small compact clumps. I have no idea what is called, where to get it, or anything. Look at lots of display pictures in the inspiration section here and you may find some examples.

When I use sphagnum for dressing the pots I rub it through a seive and also add some collected moss
