Hello Bonsai Empire,

I recently watched few videos of bonsai empire and I am very inspired to create my own bonsai.

I did know about bonsai since long but never tried it.

I have bought Golden Cypress plant from a nursery near me (Photos Attached). I have ordered wires and toolkit as well for bonsai.

I am aiming to create a water waves like bonsai from it.

I have also attached photo of trees which I am planning to look my bonsai like.

Please feel free to let me know your views whether the selection of tree is good or not. Also any other suggestion is welcome as well.

Regards,
Sunny

You do realize that the tree in your last vision picture have all its foliage lower than any foliage on your raw material?

You have big ambitions for a very young tree. There are nothing at all sugesting that this raw material is good for that ambition. Maybe think again, maybe litterati?

Thanks for your reply. Appreciate it. I uploaded picture just from internet.

Do you think that I have selected good plant for developing into bonsai?

Also if you can give some link or something to guide me how should I style it if it's good choice.

This shrub looks like a kind of Juniper. So it should be good. it all depends on your skill to keep it alive.
If this is juniper, I find it easier as pine, so, best of luck. Enjoy the journey, learn to style and enjoy, or did I already told you to enjoy?

Thank you frank a lot. Appreciate your reply.

Actually I am confused whether it's Juniper or Cypress.

I have seen few Youtube videos where some of them mentioned it as Juniper and some mentioned it as Cypress. The plant in all videos matches exactly to mine though.

The seller at plant nursery told me that it's Cypress.

I am also very excited to start my first bonsai. I'll be sharing my journey here with updates (with photos obviously).

My current plant has 3 branches. The centered one is thick compared to other two so it'll be main branch. Other two branches are also little thick so I am planning to keep them as of now though views might change later.

I have attached one rough screenshot of how I am imagining my bonsai to look like. I know this style can be hard for me to start and I can fail as well.

As of now I have not received wires so if when wiring I could not wire branches as I have shown in drawing below then i'll try one of the windswept or literati styles (Selected from this link - www.bonsaiempire.com/origin/bonsai-styles).

Regards,
Sunny

Hello LucR,

Actually I am currently keeping it inside (near window). This is our west facing window where it'll get plenty of sunlight.

It gets direct sun even during winter.

Do you think it's better decision to keep it inside?

I noticed that many experts suggest to keep bonsai outside.

I have attached screenshot of where I have currently kept it and where I am planning to keep it in future. You can see sun setting in screenshot.

Regards,
Sunny

It's suit simple really: inside it will die, wihout any doubt. There is no such thing as an inside tree.
In general for your tree: place it outside, and do nothing to it for at least a year while you learn to keep it alive. Meanwhile study as much about horticulture ( thé main aspect to master in keeping bonsai) and about bonsai in general. Start with the beginning: watering and keeping it alive.
