So, as the season for yamadori wraps up here in NS I decided to get one more tree. I was wondering, is it okay for me to wire it now? I did some pruning only to get rid of dead branches.

My experience is that anything dug up, and cuttings that manage to root, should have at least a year before I do anything. The survival rate after a year is three or four times the survival rate if I do more root work than just cutting the tap root. Same with major pruning and wiring. Two years is better.

when you take a conifer, it is wise to wait 3 or 4 years before considering working it
