So, I have this Bonsai that I bought from the Nursery that is supposed to be a Chinese Elm. It has developed aerial roots.
Is this actually a Chinese Elm? I just have not heard of them getting aerial roots, but, never know.

They are not arial roots, it is the way it is planted in the pot. The term used is exposed roots. It is not a style I like, this plant looks to be in too big a pot for it's size also.

Talking about the thinner ones.
This Bonsai has been like this since I got it. Just asking about it. Came in the pot.

As Geoff say. This is roots that have been developed in the ground and then the tree has been liften to expose them. Not amiral roots.

For this kind of tree, I would try to find a rock that fits inbetween the roots and make it a root over rock tree. But as always, not now.

I have been in touch with the Bonsai Nursery I got it from and I sent them pictures they told me that they see a nice healthy Chinese Elm with Aerial Roots in a nice sized pot for it. So, it is a nice tree with Aerial roots. The Tree is doing fine and is very healthy. Gets plenty of light, humidity and air circulation.

That is partially true nice and healthy looking. Yes thats true. It is still healthy. As I told you before, chinese elms are temperate decidious trees and it will not stay this way unless it gets its most needed winter dormancy.

Those are not airial roots. Elms do not grow areal roots. Those are exposed normal roots.

The size of the pot is pretty much an aestetic opinion. But that comes a lot later in the process of creating a bonsai. In development there are benefits of bigger pots than what may be the best aesaticaly. I agree with both statements. Yes, this pot is perfect for now. Yes, I would also prefere a smaller pot aestethialy.

This trees are not produced locally. You use the term nurcery for the place you bought it. But this tree has not been nurced there. They import the trees as is and sell them in the shop. I don't know about your area, but here stores that sell bonsai don't have any knowledge in bonsai care. If your seller think this tree grow airal roots the situation may be the same where you are?
