Hi all,

In preparing to place my bonsai in an unattached/unheated garage for winter, I am getting conflicting messages regarding putting the bonsai directly on the floor of the garage, or elevating them a bit.  Advice appreciated.

You may get conflicting information because it just do not matter that much.

There may be a slight difference In conditions on the bench or the floor, but it is neglectable and it could be different from garage to garage.

The only thing I can think of is that sitting on the floor would make it easier for mice and other rodents toget ar the trunks and gnaw bark off. 

If one have trunk eating mice and rats, I am not too sure elevating the tree would make any difference. They are really good climbers.

However, I live in an area with quite a dense rat population. I kill some 20-40 of them every year, but could take a lot more if I just spent more time on it. Even tho I have never seen them on my benches it is a fair guess that many rats already have been up there investigating the trees. So far no damage on the trees after 9 years in the hobby. And I have never seen any damage on trees in my garden or in the forest that I suspect beeing from the rats. We have damages from hares and from deers, but not from rats or mice.
