Hi all , I am new to this site and am looking forward to learning and sharing.
Not new to bonsai , I was big into it 25 years ago . Then sold most of them as I did not have the time to take care of them, traveling too much.
I did however plant 4 trident maples and one cork bark elm in the ground to grow the trunks.
Now that I am retired I have dug up three of the maples and put them in training pots.
Looking forward to get back into growing and caring for them, and possibly a few more.
Thanks for reading this and looking forward to more conversations.

Welcome, what country are you in? You certainly did the right thing by growing the trees in the ground.

I am in Ontario Canada.
The trident maples have very nice trunks and seem to be doing very well after me digging them out of the ground, I had only pruned them once each year. One has a diameter of about 10 inches the other 3 are around 6-7 inches.
Will start training them after I see good growth . Looks like there are least 3 that make me smile when I look at them right now.
When I figure out how to post pictures I will.

And yes, do that please. I'm eager to see your maples. To post a picture just click the "Add File" button every time you want to upload an image and then, when you have uploaded them all, just click the "Submit" button.

Great specimens! The trunk is massive... Wish I could have some like those.

All useless for bonsai. Just send them to me, and I will find a use for them ;)

No, seriously, you have some nice starting material there! Bet in some 5 years you will be getting to very decent trees!
