yes i call the tree my charlie brown tree after the cartoon.
if you remember the cartoon he had a small stick looking tree.

in reality it's a Autumn Blaze Maple the place where i got this one is suppose to replace it.
if they don't i have found a 15 foot one to take it's place next spring.

my Question is when i move this one can i cut it down to say around 6 to 8 inches and try to keep it around that size for a future bonsai tree.
keep it planted in the yard to work on .or should i just give up on it.

thank's for the advice.

Dave

Has it been grafted? What do the roots look like? Is the stem nicely tapered? Does it have other interesting features?

Those are the questions I ask myself in order to decide whether to keep it or not.

Naturally, any woody plant can be trained to become a bonsai. HOwever, some are more likely to become a success than others. THis one.. I would expect a decade or more before you get to the point of considering primary branches..

i would suggest pinching the top bud, as this can encourage back budding. keep doing this and you may get primary branches, it saves time, but make sure the tree is strong enough.
