My name is Michael (Mick) I'm from the Uk and I have recently started up Bonsai again .
Around 22 years ago I started with my first Chinese elm, then before you know it I was addicted lol
I had a beautiful collection of trees and a good number of years with tuition, my tutor back then was Lee Vorehevort. I had at least 8 years with Lee coming to my house at the least four times a year.
Sadly a tree was stolen from my garden and it just happened to be one that I had worked on for around 12 years
That sadly was the downfall of my collection.
Anyway this summer I got back In touch with Lee and now have 4 trees and lessons booked for next year
I hope to start where I finished off

I'm fully aware that I need to create the branch structure. This will start next spring

It's great having someone new that's well-experienced (and someone else from UK).
It looks like you bought that tree from LV Bonsai, judging by the logo on the label, so I'm sure Lee (Verhorevoort?) will have his own ideas of what he wants to do with it. My advice would be to not let him.

I gave up smoking due to it nearly killing me, I put the money in a pot weekly which I would of spent on tobacco
It doesn't take long to build up !!
I also feel much better for it

Oh my... we have a lot in common.
Quite often, when I think pre-bonsai are above my budget, I think... well, if I stop smoking, I could get excellent material. In two months...
I too started with bonsai some 20 years ago, but I had no garden and not much survived. I re-started recently.
My juniper I 'inherited' from my parents, it's an important tree for me (I read your post on bonsainut)
