Yep, another free tree. I must be a really nice guy, getting all these great gifts!

The story behind this tree:
As I wrote in another topic, some time ago we went to Lagas bonsai to try and find new trees for our collection. One of our club members got a lift from two ladies, new members of the club. It's a 150 km drive.
When it was time to go back, the two ladies decided to go and drink tea somewhere. Together. So, the guy had no return transport. As all the other cars had already left, I offered him a ride back. It wasn't really a big detour.

As he has about the same ideas about bonsai - and what's not bonsai - as me, but our opinions are not always the same, it was a lively ride back.
He asked if I had time and was interested in viewing his garden and his bonsai collection. Obviously I was. After admiring his garden and trees, and saying I liked his elm, he said I could have it, as a 'thank you' for the ride. He insisted making it a sort of a game though - he showed me several more trees and seedlings I could have. I had to choose.

This included: a collection of maple seedlings, a Tilia Cordata with a very fat trunk and some other trees, all pre-bonsai.
I stayed with my choice - the Ulmus - which according to him was the wrong choice. The others had far more potential.

While that was true, no doubt, I just liked the ulmus - and I already have quite a few trees that will need years to develop.

So, here it is. It has some flaws that will be hard to repair, but I don't care. I like the twin trunks, the bark and the total picture of the tree.

And I just decided that I hate Iphones, that, no matter what and no matter how you hold your camera, always seems to post pictures sideways...

Purchase... 30 km detour, driving on LPG, that's about 3 liters at 0,65 eur... you couldn't even buy elm seed for that.
