That for example the tree on the pic from their web I posted is 100% in the transport substrate that tends to get soggy - even more in Scotland I guess (I lived there 6 months in 2002 and remember 3 full months of everyday rain).
But it may not do much harm and you could be ok waiting till next spring.
I just expressed my opinion from my experience with mass produced chinese elms.
Anytime I get new one, repotting is the first step.
But if the tree doesn´t show any signs of ill health - then wait and see :)

I just looked at the picture and it certainly is not in the substrate fro the field. Someone has taken time to put other substrate i there. I would not repot now unless you are really experienced and know how far you can take rootwork. Rather, I would see how long the substrate stays wet and adjust my care. Then repot in spring before next season bud break. It seems to be happy in the substrate it is in now.

Most of the time, the problem is not the substrate, but care that does not fit the substrate..

True :)
But:
-that might be tricky to figure out for beginner
-compacted soil with a hole in the middle and dried soil with dead roots in it is not really expected when buying "bonsai" thus proper care is impossible (my case)
But if driver´s soil looks ok to your trained eye and is not what I expected, I take your word for it :)

Think i'll go with this good mix

www.kaizenbonsai.com/premium-bonsai-comp...new-improved-formula

I just think that soil (with me being new) might rot my roots

So I take it that you decided for the repot - and since I started on it - I feel obliged to help now.
I always wash away all of the old soil with the stream of water, with the garden hose.
Thus you do not harm the roots.
Depending on how big the rootball is I would cut the roots - if my assumption is correct and the tree wasn´t repotted in a while and roots filled the whole container, I would cut 1/5 of them since it is in leaf. (The ends of detangled roots I mean)
Could you please take pictures when the tree is out of the pot, and after you wash away the soil?
Then we would be sure about the state it was in.

(On the other thought - I haven´t seen one mallsai yet that was actually wired to the pot - so it might have been repotted after all. But would they wire it that way in a renowned bonsai shop?)

This is what´ s confusing me. We will know for sure once it is out of the pot and have pictures of the whole rootball in original soil from below...

But again - Leatherbac k is the most experienced bonsai enthusiast on this forum - so if he thinks you can wait till next spring - I wouldn´t argue with that :)
