I just got bought a Chinese elm, and ive never had any type of plant to look after before, let alone a bonsai tree. My grandad is a gardener/tree surgeon but isnt here to ask at the moment, so I was wondering is this tree healthy and in good condition, how old is it (roughly) And how do I keep it so If it is?
Also certain branches (pictures are attached) shoot off away from the main branch/canopy, how can I cut them to change their direction? Sorry if this is in the wrong category

I would ensure maximum health for winter, especially if tyou would like to keep this indoors. The tree has sprase leaves. I would not trim untill springtime. Learn how to take care of it first, then worry about trimming etc.

You have a greenhouse, it would be better there in the winter. Looks ok, but difficult to tell.
