Chinese Elms dont go in dormancy when trained and grow indoors. At least my is not doing that as all other indoor trained deciduous usually skip dormancy as indoor temperatures never go below point for tree switching into winter mode. I guess you were overwatering before or something else you were not doing right. Happy for your tree recovery. Cheers.
