I just picked up a spruce bonsai, but I have very limited knowledge on spruces.

I live in California, and I'm aware that they don' grow here.

Yet somehow a few people have figured out how.

I've asked some people and they said that it's possible, but difficult to keep spruces alive in a mediterranean climate.

If you could give me some tips or information that would be nice

Apart from that, it is a difficult tree to work with, and it seems you have selected one of the more difficult varieties too.

I'd only try to keep it alive. That'll be hard enough already. I do not really see this as an option for a future bonsai.
