Thanks Ed that is some good advice I will try to reduce the dampness of the tree's environment. I imagine that humidity levels are important for Elms, dampness, drowning of the tree or over humidity (especially when combined with less warm temperatures) may well be the cause of this.

Indeed the link doesn´t address this issue (black tips on elms´ branches) specifically. And that probably is because this symptom might be more related to environmental or care regime causes, than to a real or determined plague/disease/fungal issue.
