Hello fellow Bonsai-lovers,
I bought this tree ( www.gardenhillsnursery.com/product/kwanzan-cherry/ ) because in the description it says that "it can also be used as a bonsai specimen." I just received it and it is one 4 foot long rooted trunk with a few buds. I have no idea what to do. Where do I cut it?
What was I thinking? I realize I should have figured this out waaaay before, but I didn't. So, I need help. Please.
Thanks!

I think you have to first decide how tall your tree willbe (Typically maximum 12 times as high as the diameter of the trunk). Fro that you can work back. Naturallly, also depending n the style you have in mind. You can read a bit more on ratios and trunk sizes here:
www.growingbonsai.net/predicting-bonsai-trunk-taper/
. on this page you will also find a tree planner.
But.. In some cases it is better yo first plant your new tree and then let it settle in for a year, before choopping.

You should wait at least half a season and if the tree is healthy then think about chopping it.
