I have never seen this kind of trees before can anyone help identify the type of tree used?

When you purchased it and asked the vendor what species it is, as you wanted to know if you could give it proper care, what did they say it was?

where I'm from they have never heard of bonsai, the vendor did not know anything except that is a bonsai tree.

It is not a bonsai tree.

In the species guide, go to “identify my Bonsai”. Look under “ deciduous conifers”

it has the same leaves as the picture shown in Dawn redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides)
