Not sure about bonsai species was created by Sippi

Posted 7 years 6 months ago #39261
Hi all,
my friends recently bought me this tree but did not bother to ask what kind of bonsai it is. I did narrow it down to hornbeam or beech but I am not sure. Maybe it's not either one above. Anyway if someone has a clue I'll be grateful for an answer.
Thanks

There is no such thing as a bonsai species, you are looking for the tree species. Try the species guide, top of the page. It is easy to recognize,

Thanks,
sorry I didn't wrote bonsai "tree" species, didn't know it will be an issue, I checked my post and I wrote that I did narrow it down but I'm not sure. Thanks anyway for your time to partially read my post and write a long unhelpful reply.

Martin, it was not unhelpful.
Yours is perhaps THE easiest tree to identify, there is a whole section in this site just to help you find it (as Auk pointed out), and learning how to identify plants is a fundamental part of this bonsai process. If you really care for bonsai, you will have to learn quite a few things, it's fun!

Both your guesses are wrong. Have snother look in the species guide. Watch the leave shape closely.
