Hi everyone,

I was just gifted a bonsai about 4 weeks ago and it is my first. Long store short... in the past 2 weeks it has been losing leaves quite a bit, but also looks like there is new growth... but some areas of the new growth look like they are dying. I water the bonsai every 4-7 days, leave it near a window with no direct sunlight and open the window as often as possible whenever the temp is 65+.

Any suggestions on what I should do or is this normal?
Would also like to know what specie the bonsai is.

Thank you!

It is a chinese elm.

Remove the moss and rocks. There is no way to judge whether the plant needs watering, which may be the cause of your troubles.
Futhermore, it looks like this is inside. If the weather allows, move it outside where it belongs.
