Hello All,
Brand new to the bonsai world! I received one of those mini bonsai in a box kits, the type you can get from Barnes and Noble, and over the last week or so went through the process of soaking in water (1 day) and "wintering" in the refrigerator (7 days).
I planted all the seeds in the supplied soil/planter because it said they couldn't guarantee any would sprout, so do 'em all!
Well, its 1 week later and i've got 7 sprouts, ranging from 1 to 2 cm above the soil.
I'm curious if and when i can possibly 're-home' these sprouts and continue growing all 7 or what. Do i let them all continue in the planter?
Please, ask me more questions if you need to! I'd love to grow them all, I didn't even think i'd get 1.
Sidenote: I received this bonsai kit some time ago, maybe 3 years. I was surprised the seeds could sit for that long and still bring life. Amazing!
Thanks, everybody.
Tim

let them grow for the moment, and separate them when older.
Do you know what species is this?
The problem is they are very close together, and the roots will be tangled by the time you transplant them.

Thanks, Clicio!
Are we talking 1 year from now, a couple months, or longer?
Unfortunately I don't know the species. The packet the seeds came in had some generic number code printed on it and nothing else.
The kit itself may have said, but I lost the booklet long ago, I figured out the first steps by finding another mini-desktop kit's directions online.

Congratulations!
You just germinated your first plants
For the rest of the year, get them to grow. Put them somewhere where it gets a few hours of early morning sun, outside. Water when the soil starts to dry out. Do not let it get soaking wet or completely dry.
If you are serious about starting bonsai, also consider working with a little larger material. This will really take a long time to become something..

Thanks, leatherback!
I guess it sounds like I should probably bring these things home where I can pay more attention to them. I started the whole process at work. Thanks for the watering tips, too.
What do you mean by larger material? Buy a pregrown/starter bonsai?

That. Or pants from backyards, general nurseries etc.
Contrary to common perceptption are many bonsai cut down from larger plants, rather then grown into bonsai from seed or cutting. I will let you do your own research in finding out what the difference in outcome may be.

Thanks again!

In addition to what LB said:

Actually, you didn't receive 'bonsai in a box'. You received ordinary tree seeds. In a box.
Good that you got 'm going though.
