My Mom misunderstood the term “Bonsai”, but she was so happy that she found me one today around 7 bucks.. I won’t let her down..

Maybe a young Picea glauca?

www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-species

Thank you, sir :D You pointed out that I wasn’t exactly clear in my question, so I’ve got the best answer I could get.

I’m fair enough on identification in herpetology and arachnology (in the mygalomorph infraorder..), or general in the animal kingdom, but in plants, and specially trees, I barely know a little in taxonomy, not to speak about the indentification keys of different species/variants.
Of course I can google up everything, but I would really like to find some enthusiast, who’s enough “sick” to know the trees that deeply.

I’ve got that tree without any tag. I based my identification solely around the shape and growth point of the needles, which I’ve got the conclusion: It’s probably a spruce /Picea/. And I just went after my logic that which is the most abundant spruce in my area.

I understand that not everyone scientist here. It’s ok if someone just tells me if I’ve got right or wrong about the tree, cause all of you are more experienced than me.

I believe, if I want to do something really good, I need the deep knowledge of that thing. I started to be interested in trees, so I want to learn as much as I can about them. In that particular case, I would like to know if I identified good the genus, just based on my shallow knowledge. Even better, if someone have a few words about the id keys for the species and if I’ve got it right, but I’m happy with a good, more advanced link also.

Hi Felidae,

Please forgive Clicio. We get soooo many people here who come, ask "which plant is this" without having done anything, and after having the name, leave and/or kill the tree that is it sometimes hard to change tack when someone comes along who is prepared. I noticed your earlier post on the future of your other tree, and marked you down as someone who is very different. You seem to read up, think, and then ask questions. It is a great thing to see, and I hope you stick around to learn more bout bonsai.

It does look like a picea. I am not sure which, as I basically do not know picea very well. I would however go for Picea abies based on the overall appearence of the tree.

Hey Mimo,
Here they are:

Please forgive Clicio. We get soooo many people here who come, ask "which plant is this" without having done anything, and after having the name, leave and/or kill the tree..

No need to forgive. He did what everyone does with common sense. I wasn’t enough clear with my question, so it looked likle the standard “what I have here..”
Besides that, I have the trend to overestimate the knowledge of a field, even if it is overlapping with an other field. Don’t need to know the deep biology or the taxonomy of those trees to make jaw dropping creations.

You seem to read up, think, and then ask questions. It is a great thing to see, and I hope you stick around to learn more bout bonsai.

I try my best. I’m sure I’ll stay at least until I cannot learn anymore from that site.

It does look like a picea. I am not sure which, as I basically do not know picea very well. I would however go for Picea abies based on the overall appearence of the tree.

Thank you! That’s already something from what I can start the work.
I’ve found a pretty good publication about Spurces.

Yes, I am sorry.

Don’t need to be sorry, Clicio. You did what I would do if I see a question in the same context.

Today I did some work on it.. He’ll die, or he’ll live long and prosper..

Interesting. I thought in the Larch too initially. But the tree has old -last years- needles on it, doesn't it?
