Auk, what would you suggest as a good alternative?

Real moss.

Do you have a favorite variety/species/brand?

If you have a link for an “easy button” that’d be much appreciated.

I think I pulled out the conclusion! Some use Sagina as ground cover for bonsaïs in half shade, but it’s not ideal, cause the roots competes with the roots of the tree, so best to use « rootless » orders, like Dicranales, Bryares, etc.. ?

The stuff I just scraped from the street *1) doesn't seem to have a brand...

*1) No, I'm not joking. In the shadow of our office building there's some useful moss growing that I need today.

You could have said Diplodocus or Brachiosaurus... sorry, I am not the moss expert :)

Some coffe came out of my nose, but no biggie..
Those are no fun, cause everyone can spell. Piatnitzkysaurus or Rhamphorhynchus!

So anyway, small root variants which don’t take the nutrients away from the tree are more healthy for them :)

That’s handy.

I live in a dessert so my native moss pickins are pretty slim. I’ll have to buy some. :0)

Actually NO roots. Moss doesn't have roots. They have "threadlike rhizoids that anchor them to their substrate" (yes, I copy/pasted that. From en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moss)

So, I scraped moss from the street, washed it, placed it, and now I'm off to the club.

Yes, too much things.. I know I cannot learn everything in my lifetime, even I’m still fairly young. You know, I have a special type of autism. Not enough if something beautiful. I want to know why an how beautiful, but in subatomic level. Imagine what my friends and family need to support.

You’re right, but I didn’t want to be that kind of gal, cause you could kick me out due to annoying smartassness.. I saw I was already little too much in my Picea Identification thread.
