Hey, I am brand new to the site and also a bonsai newbie!
I got this very promising(to my eyes) acer tree from my girlfriends granny's garden and I am wondering what to do with it.
The top has been cut off some years ago and now it is growing in two colors. The top branch is red and the lower btanhes are green. So I am wondering if I should airlayer the top part and make two out of one?
Also I have no clear idea of how to develop a good branch structure, should I leave the existing branches or cut them off and grow new ones.
I appreciate any help!
Many thanks in advance,
Tino Mikosch from Vienna, Austria

Hummm... Difficult.
I think it is too short to air layer the "top", but on the other hand the botton is sooo congested, with this whorl of branches...
Not the best material for beginners, but possible.

I dont understand your answer, should or shouldn't I Airlayer?
And which of the two resulting trees do you consider more promising?

This is your decision, your tree.
But the top is more promising than the botton, in my opinion.
As I said, an airlayer can be tricky, but possible.
