dwarf cypress bonsai help and tips was created by bonseye

Recently i purchased a dwarf cypress bonsai from a local source and am having problems finding good help online about this specific type of bonsai, at first the plant was very green but am noticing it turning yellow and white in some spots. I have done as the seller instructed and water once a day in the morning to stop from having the roots dry up I do not use very much water or so I think, the bonsai sits outside and is moved it around depending the weather. The seller said the umbrella moss is not a problem if trimmed as needed. Thanks for reading hope to hear feedback soon.

Hm.. The liverwarth (I think that is what the moss is called) is actually a sign that you are keeping things fairly wet.
Moving a tree around is not ideal.

The yellowing looks to happen on older branches. Did you remove the tips? Or use a foliar fertiliser?

thank you for the comment leatherback, i try not to give it too much water when I give it water in the morning. Although the weather has been cold at night often with rain. I have not removed any tips yet. the seller said only use fertiliser once a year.

The tree looks alright, I would just remove the liverwort. You can keep it if you like but its not making a huge difference on the ecosystem of the pot. I will say it sounds like you're over watering. Use your hands, if its too wet don't water it. If you can touch the top and its wet you should check again in 12 hours. If its raining a good deal at night and your plant is getting wet, then do not water in the morning, the plant will use the rainwater and does not need extra water until the next day. Its short and simple but it gets to the heart of the matter.

I cut back some of the moss but I think it was poor timing the weather has changed dramatically and has been hot and dry the soil has dried up a lot since my last post. I am also noticing abit of yellow advice and opinions appreciated.

When you water the plant, make sure the whole rootball gets water. The way things look now, the water may just flow away along the sides of the pot. Putting it in a tray of water for a half hour soak may help.

Consider changing the substrate to a moders coarse substrate. This also helps with watering.
